Yes, not sure about the search part but I can sorta create a new report via customization and filters.ħ. Billable expenses cant be integrated with anything less then plus.Ħ. Sounds like you are knowledgable and can possibly make due with excel?Ĥ. There isnt really a budget feature in plus. So Ill answer your questions about the other tiers:ģ. I recently started a bookkeeping firm focusing on Online.įirstly, based on your experience with qb, I’d direct you to at least the essentials or plus tiers. I have used desktop for over 10 years and online for about 5. But I'd also be interested in hearing how it went for Windows.)ġ0) What things are/were you used to doing in a Desktop version of QuickBooks that you discovered you couldn't do in (please specify which) Online? (Or, if you can do it in Online, but you have to jump through annoying hoops, I'd still like to hear about it.)ġ1) Anything else you'd like to tell me about things you do or don't like about Online vs. Does anyone have any experience with converting a Desktop file to online? How hard was it and/or did it lose any data/functionality? (If you have info on this for Mac, that would be great. Is this correct?ĩ) If we decide against Online right now and do go with Desktop, but then a few years down the road decide at that time that we do need to switch to Online. It appears there's no buttonbar in Online, and everything has to be accessed either via nested menus or by remembering command keys. Does that mean there's no way to collapse/expand detail in reports in general?ģ) Is there really no budgeting functionality until Plus level?Ĥ) Is there really no way to get a list of unbilled time or expenses in Simple Start?ĥ) Can you still drill down into reports to get more detail on any number in particular?Ħ) Can you still customize reports, or create entirely new reports using search?ħ) Can you still memorize reports? (I'm used to having a large library of customized reports that assist in my regular tasks.)Ĩ) I never actually liked the dashboard (or whatever it was called) in Desktop, and I used the buttonbar to allow me to access all of my regular tasks with just one click. So I'm hoping some of you will be able to share your thoughts/experience.īTW: Here is the table I've been using to see what reports are included with what versions.ġ) Is there really no AP report/summary in Simple Start?Ģ) I notice that in Simple Start, for a lot of reports a Detail version is included but Summary isn't (or vice versa). But I still have some questions for which I haven't been able to find answers. I've done a lot of watching videos and reading articles. So now I'm trying to set aside my prior emotional reaction, and look into Online logically, to see if it will work for what my parents need, and if so, which version they'd want.

And once I got to know where to find everything in the Mac version, I can still (mostly) do whatever I want/need to. Which shouldn't surprise me, as they do the same with the Mac versions vs. I now know that's because Intuit decided to completely change the interface between Desktop and Online.

I only had a brief opportunity to use Online (don't know what version) once years ago, and I was annoyed and confused that I couldn't figure out how to do anything I wanted to do. But then my Dad asked "why not QuickBooks Online?" and I realized my gut reaction (I hate it!) wasn't necessarily logical.
I thought we were going to do QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. I'm now working with my parents to get them switched over to QuickBooks (for keeping personal books and those for a sole proprietorship service business).
I also use QuickBooks for Mac at home for my personal books (currently the 2019 version). I've used QuickBooks for years at work - various jobs have used Pro, Premier, and Enterprise.
